In the first hours of Thursday, August 24, 2023, Randy Alan Oakley of Dutton, was called home to heaven after a short battle with cancer.
He was born May 8, 1959 to parents, Helen and Ernie Oakley in Pensacola, Fla. He graduated high school and began his career in San Diego, Calif.
Randy proudly protected and served in Hampton as well as Gloucester, Va., where he settled to start a family of his own.
He is survived by his children, Victoria Oakley and Lucas Oakley; his grandchildren, Ella, William, and Asher Minton; his best friend and mother of his children, Sheila Oakley; his sister, Beth Turner, and brothers, Bill and Ronnie Oakley, and companion, Lois Renshaw.
He loved fishing, telling jokes, and listening to the music of his favorite artists such as Roy Orbison. But what he enjoyed the most was spending time with his grandchildren, giving Poppa Bear hugs and making them laugh.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 7 at 1 p.m. at Gwynn’s Island Church of the Nazarene. The family asks to be joined for food and fellowship directly after the service in the church.
