RAMONA JANET MURAWSKI

Ramona Janet Murawski (Peskie), age 87, returned to the Lord on Aug. 11, 2018 in Newport News, at Mennowood Retirement Community, after a two-year battle with multiple health issues.  She faced those challenges the same way she faced life, with grace, courage, determination, tenacity and always a sense of humor.

She was born in Wisconsin on Jan. 4, 1931 to James and Caroline Peskie, and was married to Eugene Murawski for 55 years until his passing on July 24, 2009.

Mona was an amazing mother to her four children, Susan (Len) Foster, Catherine (Dennis) Holley, Alan (Jean) Murawski and Mary (Brian) Dykas; a devoted grandmother to her three granddaughters, Lynn, Margaret and Rebecca, and loving great-grandmother to Sophia and Addison–who brought so much happiness and sparkle to GG’s life. Further survived by sisters, Christine Nowak, Donna Peskie and Estelle Moldenhauer; sisters-in-law, Barbara Peskie and Carol Murawski, and many nieces and nephews.

A devote Catholic, Mona took great comfort in her faith. She was an active member of the Theresians at St. Therese Catholic Church in Gloucester. Mona was an amazing cook and avid baker, especially famous for her homemade bread. She loved to garden, feed the backyard birds, and find creative ways to keep the squirrels from eating all the birdseed. She was an accomplished seamstress who didn’t shy away from challenges including making an intricate wedding dress for daughter Mary.

Per her final request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held Oct. 27, 2018 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Newport News; visitation at 10 a.m. and Mass at 11 o’clock.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the entire staff at Mennowood Retirement Community, Caring Hearts and Hands, and to Intrepid Hospice, particularly nurse Helen, for their wonderful, compassionate and dedicated care. Their loving care of “Miss Mona” allowed her to enjoy her final days with friends and family.

The family requests any donations be directed to your local hospice care center or charity of choice.
