Rally against hate

About 100 people gathered Sunday afternoon at what used to be known as the Bridal Boutique of Gloucester at Ordinary to form a peaceful protest against the hate and violence incited Saturday in Charlottesville. The hourlong program featured a number of different speakers, including representatives from the Gloucester, Middlesex and Essex County Democratic Committees, Circle Up Middle Peninsula, Indivisible Essex, the Middlesex and Gloucester chapters of the NAACP, and others. Though the event was organized as a non-partisan rally, it was held at the location which is set to be the southern headquarters for Port Haywood resident Sheila Crowley’s campaign in her run for the 98th district seat on the Virginia House of Delegates. Crowley, a Democrat, is challenging Republican incumbent Keith Hodges in the Nov. 7 General Election. ...
