Winners in the Labor Day Art Show were announced during a reception and awards ceremony held on Friday at the RAL Art Center on North Main Street in Kilmarnock. Show judge Steve Prince, director of engagement and distinguished artist in residence at the Muscarelle Museum of Art at William and Mary, selected 27 works to receive ribbons and cash prizes from among 144 that were listed. “Tree Time,” an acrylic painting by Brenda Sylvia, won Best in Show as a “masterful creation that deftly and harmoniously blends a color scheme that appears to be otherworldly and full of life showing the transition of seasons.” Awards of Excellence in 2D and 3D Art went to the following: 2D—First Place, “Well Traveled” by Tam Norman; Second Place, “Late Summer’s Lambs Ears” by Heidi Christensen; Third Place, “Marsh Madness” by Laura Edwards. 3D—First Place, “Basket/Pot” by Karen Podd; Second Place, “Moon Flower” by Barbara Brecher; Third Place, “I Robot!
