RAL artists on display in November

Works by Rappahannock Art League artists Laurie Breakwell, Rick Shurtz and Karen Williams are on display this month at the RAL Art Center in Kilmarnock.
Breakwell is a fused glass artist at the art center. She has won numerous ribbons in various RAL shows for her glass pieces, as well as her mixed media and fiber works. She has also had numerous fiber pieces featured in Quilting Arts Magazine and the now-defunct Cloth, Paper, Scissors Magazine.
Shurtz began developing and printing his own photography at the age of 10 and now enjoys enhancing photographs with a painting-like quality and printing to metal or canvas. He believes the key to good photography is composition and light. He considers himself a digital impressionist.
Williams began painting with oils after her husband’s retirement. She paints primarily in a realistic style, but sometimes the mood takes her in a more abstract or contemporary direction. One of her paintings in the show, “Koi No Yokan,” was a first-place winner in ...
