The Middle Peninsula Amateur Radio Club will participate in the national ARRL Field Day exercise with a two-day emergency radio demonstration on Saturday and Sunday in Hayes. Held at Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Station #3, this annual event demonstrates how amateur radio can provide critical, independent communications when traditional power grids and cell networks fail, a release stated. A highlight for the community is the dedicated “Get On The Air” station. Unlicensed visitors, families, and anyone curious about radio communication are invited to sit down at the controls, take the microphone, and legally make live, long-distance radio contacts under the guidance of a licensed club coach from 2-6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday. Station #3 is located at 2676 Hayes Road. For more information, visit MPARC.net....
