R. Leon Dishman Sr., age 75, a resident of Hayes, died on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, after a long illness.

He was born in Danville, but spent most of his life in Gloucester. Mr. Dishman was a graduate of VPI Class of 1964 and retired as Director of Manufacturing from Newport News Shipbuilding. 

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carole K. Dishman; daughter, Elizabeth Wolfinger (Russ); son, Richard Dishman; daughter, Cami D. Andersen (Donnie); son, Barron Dishman (Shannon); grandchildren, Jordan, Haley, Brenna, Madisen, Emily, Claire and Alexis.

Memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown. The family greeted friends prior to the service. 

The family wishes to thank Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center for the excellent care given to Mr. Dishman.
