Putt announces for HOD; Budget approved

Mathews County supervisor Neena Putt used the occasion of Tuesday’s board meeting to announce her candidacy for the 98th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates this year.

Putt said she will run as an independent for the term which begins in January 2014. She completes her current term on the board of supervisors on Dec. 31. She thanked Mathews residents for the opportunity to serve and said that her constituents’ confidence in her and their willingness to communicate with her had given her the tools to serve.

"I feel the time has come for me to take those tools to the next level," she said, "and continue serving in another capacity … I hope the citizens will consider supporting me."

Budget adoption

With no discussion, the board voted 4-1, Putt dissenting, to approve the $23.94 million county budget, which includes a fully-funded school budget. Putt did not give a reason for voting in opposition.
