Purple Poppy opens in Mathews

The Purple Poppy, a boutique selling gift items and home décor, opened recently on Main Street in Mathews.

The new store is adjacent to owner Kim Genduso’s existing artisan collective, The Vintage Pearl, which opened two years ago. Both stores will have the same concept, said Genduso, with multiple vendors creating and maintaining displays of their own goods. However, she said the new space won’t just have “more of the same.” Instead, there will be new products and new styles.

“I don’t want to be repetitive, but to get a diverse group with plenty of things to choose from,” she said.

Seven vendors have reserved space in The Purple Poppy, she said, including Becky Beckstoffer, who closed her store, Lily Valentine, in the same space, but still wanted to have a presence on Main Street.

“There are so many amazing local artists that I knew I could fill it,” said Genduso.
