120 YEARS AGOThursday, Aug. 16, 1906from the Mathews Journal We are exceedingly glad to know that the members of the School Board of Mathews County have determined to establish a High School entirely under the control of the Public School System, to be located at Mathews C.H. This is a great step forward, and we want to see a splendid High School Building erected near Mathews C.H. on a five-acre lawn, where the people of Mathews will have a High School second to none in the county districts of the State. 110 YEARS AGOThursday, Aug. 10, 1916from the Mathews Journal Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Callis made a trip to Norfolk this week in their Buick touring car. Manager H.E. Hutcheson of the Tidewater Telephone Company was in town Tuesday. Messrs. Burton Hudgins of New Point and C.H. Lewis of Cobbs Creek have purchased Ford touring cars.
