A new private psychiatric and wellness practice is opening in Mathews to serve the mental health needs of adults and children. The Changing Tide, which is the result of a partnership between Drs. William Yetter, Melinda Barker and Heather Rowe, and Debra Moore-Zierow, PMHNP, is a rural extension of Psychiatric Consultants of Hampton Roads.
The Changing Tide is located at 75 Main Street in the Victorian-style house within the Town Center development.
“The need for psychiatric services in this underserved Chesapeake Bay region was the driving force behind this new practice, said Moore-Zierow, a 25-year resident of Mathews and Gloucester, through a press release.
In terms of the staff of The Changing Tide, Yetter is a California native with 30 years of experience as a neuropsychiatrist. He holds a degree from the University of Santiago School of Medicine and did his residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Barker is a nurse practitioner and CEO of Psychiatric Consultants of Hampton Roads. She graduated from Hampton University in 2004 as an NP and completed a Ph.D. at the school in 2009.
Rowe relocated from Alabama four years ago and is making the switch from a 13-year career in community service. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of Alabama School of Medicine.
Moore-Zierow spent time as a family nurse practitioner before becoming certified as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner in 2018 from Shenandoah University. She has experience in the field of psychiatric care, both inpatient and outpatient, within state and private hospitals.
The Changing Tide currently has limited insurances being accepted, though this will expand as they complete the credentialing process. “We will work diligently to provide medication management, psychotherapy, community care coordination, and family education,” said Moore-Zierow. “Our primary goal is to reduce the stigma and negative impact mental illness has on our clients and their families while improving health to a level of wellness that saves lives.”
