Protective mama

In spite of having a snake eat finch and dove eggs from nests on her porch last week,this killdeer still had some eggs waiting to hatch. This killdeer has been hanging around the photographer’s oyster shell driveway in Hayes. A ground dweller, she laid her eggs on the ground. When approached, she fans her tail feathers to look big and scary. The photographer made a little barricade to protect the eggs from vehicles on the driveway.
