Promising start for 2015 MHS soccer

With rain and weather bogging down soccer tryouts and practice for the last two weeks, the Mathews varsity team’s season got underway with a fresh round of new players to replace the graduated seniors as well as several other seasoned players from the 2014 Blue Devil team.

A new coach, Bonnie Kramer, and assistant coach Dan Wood will be seen on the sidelines for the Devils. The varsity team began its season Friday night with a scrimmage, a 3-3 tie against the Washington and Lee Eagles. Goals were scored by Kevin Jenkins, Jordan Bozza, and Tim White.

Zach Foss, the varsity team’s goalie, seems to be a steadying force that should bring the Blue Devils to victory this season.

The first game of the season was Monday night against Rappahannock High School. Mathews lost to the home-standing Raiders, 4-2.
