The Mathews Broadband Advisory Board, meeting on Tuesday, learned from consultant Jeff Beekhoo of Broadband Telecom Services that progress continues on providing wireless internet from the two telecommunications towers the county owns. Verizon equipment is up and running on the tower located on Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad property at Hudgins, he said, while the company’s equipment on the tower at Mathews Volunteer Fire Department Station 2 in Bohannon should be operational in the next couple of weeks. Additionally, he said that T-Mobile should be providing the county with a draft lease for the Hudgins tower this month or next. Board vice chairman Willie Love said that the light at the top of the Hudgins tower went out recently. The issue was reported by residents, he said, and he attributed it to a problem with the controller that has since been addressed.
