Primary elections to be held Tuesday

Voters will hit the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in a dual primary election in Gloucester and a Democratic Party primary in Mathews. The primary will be held at normal polling locations in both counties from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Democratic Party requested the primary for the offices of lieutenant governor and attorney general. Meanwhile, Gloucester Republicans requested the primary to pick the GOP candidate for the at-large seat on the county’s board of supervisors.

In the Democratic primary, state Sen. Ralph Northam challenges Aneesh Chopra for the party’s nomination for lieutenant governor while state Sen. Mark Herring challenges Justin Fairfax for the party’s nomination for attorney general.

In Gloucester, Republicans on the ballot for the board of supervisor seat are incumbent Louise Theberge and challenger John Meyer Jr.
