Presidential, Congressional races top Tuesday’s ballot

With many residents spending all of their extra energy in the past week preparing for Hurricane Sandy, some may have put to the back of their minds the fact that Tuesday is Election Day. The last day to vote absentee in Virginia is Saturday.

Voter registrars in both Gloucester and Mathews expect a large turnout for this year’s presidential election, and polls will be open in both counties on Tuesday from 6 a.m.-7 p.m.

All polling locations in Gloucester and Mathews counties will remain the same, including T.C. Walker Elementary School which was closed as a school but has remained open for other activities.

Gloucester voter registrar Bobbi Morgan reported that there are currently 26,321 registered voters in the county, compared to 25,008 registered voters during the 2008 presidential election.

Mathews voter registrar Ruth Ann Hutson said there are currently 7,033 registered voters in Mathews, which is 222 more than what the county had in the 2008 presidential election. I...
