Preparation for fall festivals underway

With summertime drawing to a close, it’s time to begin thinking about fall and the upcoming festivals that residents look forward to each year such as Mathews Market Days and the Guinea Jubilee.

Organizers of these festivals have been hard at work for the past year planning to make sure this year will be the best yet for each of these annual events.

Mathews Market Days, the first of the two big September events, will be held on Sept. 5-6 in and around the historic courthouse. This marks the 40th year for the festival, and its spokesperson Trudy Flippin said a number of special events are scheduled.

Not only will Market Days feature the work of a number of local artists, the Classic Cruisers Show ’N’ Shine Car Show, the home-cooked products fair, youth and childrens’ activities, musical entertainment and more, but will also include the popular Saturday Night Live Street Dance.
