Editor, Gazette-Journal: I wanted to let everybody know what a wonderful experience you can have at the Mathews Museum. When you walk in the door, you’re greeted by friendly and very knowledgeable staff who, if you want, are ready to assist and tell you about the exhibits in depth. The museum may be small, but it’s very relevant to the Chesapeake Bay area and exceptionally well done! Tom Robinson has done a fantastic job locating and acquiring interesting things for the museum. His newest acquisition is a 3,000-pound underwater manned explorer called the Aquascope. It was designed and built by Gilbert Klingel, funded by National Geographic. Along with photographer Willard R. Culver, they went to explore and record the bottom of the Chesapeake Bay. This fabulous “Beneath the Surface” exhibit includes curriculum developed for each grade level. The Mathews Museum should be put on your “to-do list.” You will be pleased if you do.
