The Mathews Historical Museum is compiling a small cookbook with “Southern Pound Cake Recipes from the Past and Present—Mathews, Virginia,”

“We know that both the Woman’s Club and the Homemakers have some of Mathews best bakers so we would love to include your recipes,” said cookbook compiler Nancy Twigg.

The deadline to submit recipes is Jan. 15. The release is planned for May Faire 2024, on May 4.

Favorite pound cakes associated with the county are sought. “If they are in your grandmother’s hand writing, send it that way,” Twigg said. “Also, [we would] would love to include any special stories that you have—like your brother insists that you make your blueberry pound cake every year for his birthday.”
