Poulson’s walk plates winning run for GHS

The Gloucester High Dukes split their last two games, defeating Warwick in an extra-innings baseball thriller before getting shut out by Menchville in an away contest. The Dukes are now 12-2 on the year.

Against Warwick, a huge third inning for the home nine put them squarely in the driver’s seat, as the Dukes plated five runs in the inning. Gloucester enjoyed a strong performance at the plate from Colton Smith, who went two-for-four with two RBIs and a walk. Charlie Poulson reached base four times via the walk, as well in what would prove to be a crucial performance.

On the mound, Blake Taylor started strong and had the strikeout working, though in the fifth he would scuffle and allow five runs. Taylor finished the game with a line of four and two-thirds innings pitched, six hits allowed, three walks, and seven strikeouts. Hunter Sturgeon came in to try to put out the fire but surrendered two hits and a run without tallying an out.
