Kimberly H. Allen was recently named the new postmaster for the Gloucester Post Office located in Main Street Center.

In her new post, Allen is in charge of 25 employees, including clerks, route carriers, and relief positions. She said the Gloucester Post Office is the administrative office for the small postal facilities at Woods Cross Roads, Ware Neck and Schley.

“I love customer service,” said Allen, a Gloucester native with 18 years’ experience with the U.S. Postal Service. In the short time she’s been in her new office, Allen said, she has helped customers at the counter and been a relief carrier.

Allen said she began in a postal relief position and has worked her way up the ranks through a series of positions, most recently as officer-in-charge at Gloucester Post Office and previously as postmaster at the Urbanna Post Office. “What other agency touches everybody in the U.S. every day,” she said, as it provides service to all 50 states.
