Gloucester Post Office was evacuated for a period of time Tuesday morning after someone inside discovered a white, powdery substance leaking from a package. Maj. Darrell Warren of the Gloucester Sheriff’s Department said investigators quickly obtained information on where the package had come from and where it was going. An officer was sent to the recipient’s address, who said she was expecting baked goods from her sister in Georgia. The sister was soon contacted and confirmed that she was shipping gluten-free baking powder, Warren said. Hazmat crews were called to the scene, as were fire and rescue personnel and patrons were turned away when trying to access the building early Tuesday.
