According to Gloucester County Public Schools, the Three Rivers Health District informed the division on Thursday afternoon of a possible COVID-19 exposure at Abingdon Elementary School taking place on March 12-13. A school division employee who works at Abingdon Elementary and is suspected of having the coronavirus, worked in the school on those days, the release said. Three Rivers Health District Director Dr. Richard Williams informed Gloucester County Public Schools that the incubation period for COVID-19 can be up to 14 days, although time from exposure to symptoms is usually 4-5 days. “We are now 13 days from latest possible exposure,” the March 26 release stated. “Parents who notice or who have noticed respiratory symptoms in their children or themselves as well as staff members should contact their pediatrician or primary care provider for evaluation and advice.” The Virginia Department of Health says COVID-19 can cause mild to more severe respiratory illness.
