Portsmouth woman sentenced in shooting

A Portsmouth woman was sentenced to three years incarceration Monday in connection with the shooting of a Hayes resident in February. The victim survived with non-life-threatening wounds.

As part of a plea agreement, Monique Sashelle Boyette, 34, of Portsmouth pleaded guilty Monday to malicious wounding and using a firearm to commit a felony. Her pleas were accepted by Judge Jeffrey W. Shaw in Gloucester Circuit Court. 

According to the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of three females fighting in the yard of a residence in the 4000 block of Piney Swamp Road at about 2:10 a.m. on Feb. 17. 

The GSO dispatcher who took the call heard gunshots during the conversation alerting the GSO to the fight, according to Gloucester Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Laura Looney.
