Pointers shut out Devils, 65-0

The Mathews High School varsity football team dropped to 1-7 overall following Friday’s loss to West Point, 65-0. With the homecoming game win, the Pointers improved to 6-1.

Head coach C.J. Kelly and his Blue Devils will have a week off, returning to action at 7 p.m. next Wednesday, Oct. 31 when Mathews will host the Middlesex Chargers to conclude the 2018 season. The Halloween-night game had originally been scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 1, but was changed to avoid a conflict with an upcoming regional volleyball tournament game that night at MHS.

Mathews and Middlesex have only one win each this season, with both the Devils and Chargers defeating King and Queen.

“We have an open week now and we will take advantage of our practice time for next week’s season finale,” Kelly said. “It’s Senior Night and it’s going to be special!” ...
