Pointers edge Mathews in soccer, 2-1

The Mathews High School varsity soccer team lost a close match to West Point, falling to the visiting Pointers last Wednesday, 2-1.

Will Sease scored the lone Mathews goal, with an assist from Glenn Musgrove. Ryan Morgan, Chris Barnhardt, Tyler Tillman and Musgrove also had shots on goal. Goalie Carter Vrooman had six saves.

The MHS soccer team will be holding its barbecue fundraiser from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 29, at the school cafeteria. The cost for the dinner, which will include barbecue, cole slaw, beans and dessert, is $9. Meals are available for take out or to dine in.

Tickets are on sale in some local businesses and by all soccer players.
