Pointers defeat Devils, 50-8

The Mathews High School varsity football team suffered its fifth loss of the season on Friday night, falling on the road to West Point, 50-8.

Quarterback Stuart Anderson provided all the scoring for Mathews, on a rushing touchdown in the first quarter which he followed up with a two-point conversion. For the game, Anderson had 57 rushing yards, followed by running back Jarius Monroe with 42. Anderson was 2-for-4 in the passing department; wide receiver Jovan Johnson had 10 receiving yards for the game.

On defense, Johnson had two tackles. Anderson had five tackles from his safety position. And linebacker Alec Thompson contributed three tackles.

The junior varsity Devils, meanwhile, posted a big 50-6 win over Windsor on Monday night to up its record to 3-1-1 on the season. The JV team will close out its 2016 season on Monday at Middlesex, starting at 6 o’clock.
