‘Pocahontas’ the butterfly

On Oct. 12, Trudeau tagged and released her, naming her in honor of the newly designated Indigenous Peoples’ Day, she said. She cooperated with her photo session prior to release. Trudeau has raised 60 and released 58 Monarch butterflies this season; two had to be euthanized due to birth defects with their wings. Twenty-four have been tagged through the Monarch Watch program since August to track their migration. “This summer, I took an online class on Pocahontas through the Pocahontas Project,” Trudeau said. “It was wonderful and my project for the class is to relate Pocahontas’s life to that of a Monarch butterfly.”
