Jennifer McClain, 29, co-owner of Plush Parlor Beauty Supply in Gloucester, is originally from Queens, New York, and said that she knew in 2014 at the age of 23 that she wanted to own a retail store.

Not knowing originally what to do, the name Plush Parlor dawned on her in a brainstorming session and she envisioned selling accessories online. She designed a logo, color and theme, listed an inventory, and gave herself five years.

Plush Parlor started in 2019 and is growing, recently moving into a new space at 4127 George Washington Memorial Highway, Hayes. McClain said it is the first black-owned beauty supply store in the county.

“We provide the best quality hair and products to women and men alike and pride ourselves on excellent customer service,” McClain said. Her business partner is her mother, Sara McClain, “the best business partner anyone could ask for,” Jennifer said.
