‘Planters with a Purpose’ to meet next week

“Planters with a Purpose,” a new community garden club forming in Mathews, will hold its first meeting next Wednesday, Jan. 25, beginning at 10 a.m., at the Mathews Extension Office, 10494 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews.

The purpose of the club is to stimulate the knowledge and joy of gardening by assisting members to start, expand, or improve their plant growing skills, a release stated.

At the first meeting, those in attendance will receive a free soil sample kit, a Master Gardener Yearly Planting Guide and will take part in a discussion about future community projects. “Bring your ideas to help form the club,” the release said. Refreshments will be served and a door prize will be offered.

The club is sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University. For more information, contact Rachael Morris, Extension Agent for Mathews County at 804-725-7196 or r.morris@vt.edu.
