Planning underway for Mathews fireworks

The Mathews County Fireworks Committee has announced that the 20th annual fireworks show will take place on Tuesday, July 4, at Mathews High School, with a rain date of July 5.

There will be entertainment and concessions available for purchase throughout the evening. The fireworks display will begin at approximately 9 p.m. Additional parking will be available at Thomas Hunter Middle School with a shuttle bus running from 7 p.m. until its conclusion.

“This event has become a focal point for the community,” said chairman Charles Ingram. “We are pleased to continue this fine tradition in the celebration of our nation’s birthday.”

Ingram explained that the fireworks display could not continue without the community’s support as no taxpayer funds are used.
