Planners to hold three public hearings

The Mathews Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse when it will hold three public hearings—two conditional use permit requests and one proposed text amendment.

John Vigliotta of Aquaculture Real Estate Corporation is requesting a CUP to allow an oyster packaging facility at 150 Enterprise Lane in Foster. According to staff documents, “The facility will include a building for packing and shipping oysters, a dock on the Mobjack Bay, and an access path between the building and dock.”

The property is 11.94 acres, zoned Rural and Residential-1. Commercial shellfish aquaculture is allowed in R-1 with a CUP and shellfish and finfish processing, packing and storage facilities are allowed in the Rural Zoning District with a CUP.

The next public hearing planners will consider is for a requested CUP for an event venue at 528 Cedar Point Lane, Bohannon. The property is zoned Rural and R-1 and is 81.1 acres.
