Planners to discuss proposed code amendment for CUPs

The Gloucester County Planning Commission will meet tonight in the colonial courthouse on Main Street, beginning at 7, to discuss a potential code amendment to the zoning ordinance pertaining to conditional use permits.

According to the current ordinance, those who obtain CUPs must establish the conditional use within one year from the date of approval by the county board of supervisors or the permit will become void. Staff has recognized this as a shortcoming of the ordinance since most applicants are not ready to begin construction immediately upon approval.

Staff’s proposal is to lengthen the one-year limit to 18 months or two years.

Planners will also discuss revisions for public utilities in the comprehensive plan. Public utility facilities or public service corporation facilities (other than railroad facilities or underground natural gas or underground electric distribution facilities of a public utility) are not fully addressed in the current comprehensive plan.
