Planners to discuss possible business rezoning at Glenns

The Gloucester County Planning Commission will discuss the potential rezoning of B-4 (rural business) properties at the intersection of Route 17 and Route 33 at Glenns to the B-1 (Business) district at its monthly meeting at 7 o’clock tonight in the colonial courthouse.

“This intersection contains a number of parcels within a quarter-mile radius which are currently zoned B-4 and, due to the nature of this intersection as compared to other rural intersections with B-4 zoning, should possibly be considered for a county-sponsored rezoning to the B-1 district,” a staff report stated.

“When considering during the Zoning Ordinance rewrite what uses should be permitted in the B-4 (B-R) zoning district, we have been struggling with which uses may be appropriate in primarily rural areas like Ware Neck, Signpine, and Wicomico compared to those uses that could be accommodated at and around the Glenns intersection.”

As requested by the board of supervisors, planners will also begin “to develop an amendment to the Subdivision Ordinance that would remove at least some of the requirements that were adopted as part of the Family Transfer subdivision process in August of 2006.” Planners will direct staff on how to proceed with amending the Code Amendment covering that process.

The planners also have two rezoning request applications that will come before them in April—Under the Stars Lavender Farm and Under the Stars Event Facility in northern Gloucester County.
