Planners to discuss code amendment for event venues

The Gloucester Planning Commission will discuss a proposed code amendment for event venues during a meeting at 7 tonight in the colonial courthouse.

No vote was taken on the matter at several earlier commission meetings.

“Event centers and venues could increase tourism related activity within the county and economic activity,” a staff memorandum said.

The goal of the code amendment would be to better define the uses and establish criteria for how and where they should be permitted within the county, the memorandum said.

“We have had several inquiries related to event venues in the county,” said Anne Ducey-Ortiz, director of planning and zoning.

Several of the requests have been for non-family members to pay a fee to use homes and their grounds for special events like weddings.
