Planners to consider special village zoning district

The Mathews County Planning Commission will hold a work session at 7 o’clock tonight in the historic courthouse on a proposed Village Mixed Use Zoning District to replace the current Business-2 zoning district in Mathews Court House.

The commission will then hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 21, during which property owners in the Court House area are invited to offer comments on the proposal.

The VMU district is under consideration because of a request by developer Walter Alford, whose company, HARC LLC, would like to redevelop the Christie Auto Care property on Main Street by building residential apartments, townhouses, and duplexes, some of which would be located above commercial ground-floor space.
