Planners to consider rezoning request Tuesday

The Mathews County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors will have a joint public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse.

On the agenda is a request by William and Katherine Gottwald to rezone a parcel from business to residential. The couple owns a vacant lot on Henry’s Road on Gwynn’s Island that is zoned commercial, and they would like to downzone in order to build a home there, said Planning and Zoning Director Thomas Jenkins.

The two boards will also consider whether to amend the Mathews County Zoning Ordinance to change the definition of event venues. Currently, an event venue is defined as a temporary reception facility in a portable shelter used on specified occasions that accommodates corporate events and social functions.
