Planners table discussion on zoning amendment

The Mathews County Planning Commission tabled a discussion of a proposed amendment to the zoning ordinance Tuesday night until more members could be present.

Only four members of the commission were able to attend Tuesday’s meeting and, although there was a quorum, two of the members had conflicts for which they felt they should recuse themselves from voting on the proposed amendment, which deals with adding related uses such as canoeing and kayaking to a provision regarding sailing clubs and schools.

A public hearing was held on the proposal in December, but the commission couldn’t vote on the measure then because it didn’t have a quorum.

The commission voted to request a work session with the board of supervisors in order to discuss and clarify proposed changes to the regulation governing plans of development and site plans.
