Planners support food truck text amendment

The Mathews County Planning Commission quickly voted its support of a text amendment to the zoning ordinance on Tuesday night following a joint public hearing with supervisors at which no one from the public raised any concerns.

The text amendment, if approved by the Mathews Board of Supervisors at its meeting this coming Tuesday, would make food trucks by-right uses in the Village Mixed Use District as well as in the waterfront and non-waterfront business districts and the industrial district. It would also establish regulations governing them.

The regulations would include defining food trucks and requiring permits, setbacks, and trash receptacles. It would place restrictions on signage, lighting, liquid waste, seating, and portable toilets and would prohibit parking in handicapped spaces.
