Planners recommend rule waiver for Hayes development

The Gloucester County Planning Commission has recommended that requirements for a sidewalk and streetlights for a lower county homeowners’ association be waived.

During a meeting Thursday night in the colonial courthouse, the commission supported the request of Hawthorn Green Homeowners Association to forego the county’s stated requirements.

The association sought the waiver since 16 out of 17 lots in the subdivision, located off Lillaston Lane at Hayes, have less than 20,000 square feet of area and less than 125 feet of road frontage. The county’s subdivision ordinance said that lots less than 20,000 square feet or 125 feet of road frontage are required to have both sidewalks and streetlights.

David Hogge, a member of the association, said that a sidewalk would be “nothing but an eyesore” since it would not connect to any other existing or proposed sidewalks in that general area.
