Planners recommend approval of Cobbs Creek auto business

The Mathews County Planning Commission voted to recommend that the board of supervisors grant three requests for conditional use permits following joint public hearings on the applications Tuesday night. All three cases will be heard by the supervisors at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, in the historic courtroom on Court Street.

Despite some concerns expressed by commission members that compliance might be an issue, the commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of a revised application for an auto service business at 3890 Buckley Hall Road in Cobbs Creek, near the intersection with Roane Point Road.

The application, submitted by Alandus Ware of Mathews, was revised to require a VDOT-approved commercial entrance. The business, which is situated 575 feet back from the highway, would also be limited to operating between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with towing on an on-call basis.
