Planners recommend approval of Bohannon rezoning

The Mathews County Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of an application to rezone a property in Bohannon from Rural (RU) to Business (B-2) to allow for three buildings on East River Road to be used for small business purposes, according to zoning technician Liz Whitley.

The application from Michael Hux of North to rezone three parcels totaling 0.34 acre will be considered by county supervisors when they meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse.

A hearing on the proposal was held Tuesday evening in the courthouse. The only resident input came from two individuals who live near the properties in question; neither objected to the rezoning.

In discussing the application, planner Thomas Jenkins said that the two major concerns relate to the state of the sewage system and entry to the properties from the road.
