Planners recommend approval of bed and breakfast request

The Mathews County Planning Commission on Tuesday voted to recommend that the board of supervisors approve a conditional use permit for North resident Ann Foster to operate a bed and breakfast at her home on Kingston Lane.

According to planner Thomas Jenkins, Foster applied for a CUP in 2002 to operate both a bed and breakfast and a temporary reception facility at her home. The terms of the CUP required that she obtain a business license within 24 months of being issued a permit. However, although she obtained a business license for the reception facility, she did not obtain one for the bed and breakfast, said Jenkins. Then, sometime during the past 13 years, she began renting out rooms in her home on a monthly basis to permanent tenants.
