The Mathews County Planning Commission, meeting on Tuesday night, voted to recommend that the Mathews County Board of Supervisors not proceed with a request to establish a public waterfront park on 2 acres of county-owned property on Gwynn’s Island.
The vote was unanimous, with one abstention, and it came after a special meeting that was held to give the residents of South Bay Haven Drive, where the property is located, an opportunity to speak about what amenities they would prefer to have or not have in such a park, which has been requested by the Mathews Parks and Recreation Commission.Chairman Billy Cook stated at the beginning of the meeting that it would be an informal gathering and that speakers did not have to come forward to speak into a microphone.
