Planners receive comments on comp plan revisions

The Mathews County Planning Commission heard comments from two residents during the July 18 public meeting on proposed revisions to the county’s comprehensive plan.

The meeting was not a public hearing on the document, explained Mathews County Planning and Zoning Director Thomas Jenkins, but rather a chance for residents to offer their opinions before a full public hearing is held at a later date.

Jenkins explained further that the comprehensive plan is a guidance document for long-term growth in the county over the next 30 years. Adopted in 2011, the plan is required by state law, and the planning commission is the body responsible for updating it every five years and presenting it to the board of supervisors.
