Planners give their support to duplex proposal

The Gloucester County Planning Commission approved two zoning matters following separate public hearings last Thursday night in the colonial courthouse.

Tabb M. Bridges applied to reclassify about a third of an acre from SF-1 (Single Family) to MF-1 (Multi-family). Following the hearing, Bridges said that once he gets approval from the Gloucester Board of Supervisors, he plans to begin construction of a two-family duplex this winter and hopes to have the building completed by late spring.

The property is located in the Ware Magisterial District at the intersection of Fairview and Edgehill streets. The county’s Comprehensive Plan identifies this area as Village Scale Mixed Use where higher density development should occur, a public notice said. 

Several neighbors spoke against the Bridges application, stating that a duplex would not be in harmony with the single-family homes there now.
