Planners give their approval for proposed MD Express facility

The Gloucester County Planning Commission recommended approval of one rezoning application during a meeting last Thursday night in the colonial courthouse. A second application for a rezoning was withdrawn prior to the meeting, planning director Anne Ducey-Ortiz said.

James K. and Deborah B. Lockwood were given the support of the commission to rezone an approximately 1½-acre site on Route 17, just south of Short Lane, from Suburban Countryside (SC-1) to Business (B-1). The application now goes to the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors, which planning officials said is expected to hold its own hearing on the rezoning request this fall.

The property, at 6567 George Washington Memorial Highway, is immediately adjacent to the building that housed the state Department of Motor Vehicles office for a number of years.
