Planners endorse Villages of Gloucester proposal

The Gloucester Planning Commission has recommended county supervisors approve the proposed proffer amendments pertaining to the Villages of Gloucester.

At their monthly session held March 1, commission members heard remarks from the applicant’s attorney as well as staff recommendations related to the project. 

According to the applicant’s attorney, cash proffers have been added by the applicant that exceed $2.9 million. This was done in the interests of mitigating traffic increases identified by the Virginia Department of Transportation in a review of a previous 2007 study.

VDOT found that one intersection of Route 17 and Burleigh Road would face a noticeable traffic impact. The applicant proffered to pay $2,584 for each of the 1,122 units in the development, resulting in this $2.9 million figure. This amount was identified by VDOT as the exact cost for making necessary road improvements to offset the increase in vehicle traffic.
