Planners endorse travel trailer request

The Mathews County Planning Commission voted unanimously on Tuesday night to recommend that county supervisors approve a request by Robert Blake for a conditional use permit to place a temporary travel trailer on his property on Tabernacle Road. Blake’s home was destroyed by fire in February.

The decision followed a brief joint public hearing of the commission and the supervisors. Planning staff and planners are suggesting a number of conditions for Blake’s use of the trailer, which he would like to use indefinitely. The conditions are that the trailer may be occupied for five years, after which the CUP must be renewed; that the CUP not run with the land; that setbacks have to be adhered to; that the permit may be revoked if Blake decides to live elsewhere or decides to place a home on the property; and that the trailer must be adequately secured.
