Pilot positively identified in Deltaville crash

Last Thursday, Virginia State Police released the name of the pilot killed in the Nov. 24 airplane fatality in Deltaville.

Carl Macon Smith, 71, of White Stone, has been positively identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office as the pilot who crashed his fixed-wing aircraft at the 1270 block of North End Road, according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya.

Family members have received notification, Anaya said. Details of the crash itself are still under investigation.

State police were able to verify that there was only one occupant in the plane, the pilot. The plane has been identified by the FAA as a Beechcraft Bonanza V35.

The aircraft struck a garage type structure, causing it to become completely engulfed in flames.
